Assessment

  • Four class tests and one practical test are conducted during academic year as formative assessment
  • Final theory exam including 2 theory papers and one practical test is conducted at the 15th month of academic year as summative assessment

  • Compartment system is used for the 2nd MBBS students
  • Three compartments: Class Work (30%), Final Theory (50%) and Final Practical (20%). Class Work includes 4 class tests and one practical test. Final Theory includes 2 theory papers. In each class test and final exam,
      • Multiple Choice Questions: 40 stems (200 responses), multiple responses, minus system, not carried over for two hours
      • Multiple Short Questions: 6 in number for one hour
  • In practical test/ exam,
      • Objective Structured Practical Examination (OPSE) includes 10 stations (one station for 5 minutes)
  • Viva voce: only for potential distinction candidates
  • Supplementary exam including 2 theory papers and one practical test is conducted 6 weeks after the announcement of final exam result.

Proposed curriculum

For Foundation Year

Title of the Course : Foundation Year, Functional Principle Bloc

After completion of this functional principle block, the learner should

  • have acquired knowledge of the fundamental principles for understanding of physiologic processes and interaction of body systems
  • enable to integrate/correlate with clinical and other medical related subjects

Teaching hours: 36 hours (Teaching Hours may be changed)

Teaching methodology

  • Lecture
  • Small Group Discussion
  • Practical
  • Group presentation
  • Assignment
  • TBL
  • TPPD

Overview Topics

The functional principle bloc consists of SIX components such as

  1. Cells, levels of body organization and environments of the body
  2. Homeostasis
  3. Membrane transport
  4. Electrical properties of nerve and muscle cells
  5. General principles of neurophysiology
  6. General principles of endocrine physiology
