1 Assessment for modules
1.1 Methods of assessment
Three methods of assessment will be applied
1. Continuous assessment
2. Summative assessment
3. Viva voice
1. Continuous assessment in module I, II and III will contribute 30% of final assessment for
each respective paper
2. Summative modular assessment contribute 50% of final assessment each paper
Paper I covers module 1
Paper II covers module 2
Paper III covers module 3
NOTE; In Summative assessment, five short essay questions (20 marks x 5 =100) in
three hours will be asked for each paper.
3. Viva will cover all modules in one table (30 minutes for each table). Viva will contribute
20% for the final assessment.
*Convener system will be applied for the Summative examination
Trainee must pass each paper separately with the score of 60% and above in each
part; continuous assessment, theory paper and viva. There will be no moderation. If the score obtained is less than 60% in each theory paper and in the viva, it will be regarded as fail. If the candidate could not get 60% in the continuous assessment, it will be regarded as not eligible to sit the summative exam. The score of 75% and above in average, but not less than 70% in each paper, will be regarded as credit
1.3 Supplementary exam
Trainee has a chance to re-attempt the unsatisfactory paper or papers in remedial exam at 6 weeks after the announcement of summative assessment’s result. If the trainee fails again in the remedial examination, another chance to re-attempt the failed subjects will be held after six months. If the trainee failed in all subjects, the remedial exam will be held after six months. 3F system is applied for assessment.
1.4 Organization of board of examiners
Board of Examination of Module assessment will be organized as follow.
Chief examiner : Chairman of the Postgraduate Board of Studies of MMedSc
Biochemistry
Co-examiner 1 : Head of Department of Biochemistry from other Universities of
Medicine
Co-examiner 2: Senior teaching faculties with MMedSc holders involved in the course
from Universities of Medicine
External examiner: Two renowned persons in the field of Biochemistry
2.1 Preparation for Protocol & Protocol
Protocol defend should be done in year 1. Protocol can be defended from June.
The date of thesis submission to the Board of Examination is in November of the second year. There will be a verbal defense for thesis which will be assessed by organized members of Board of Examination. If the trainee cannot successfully defend the thesis at the time stated (within year two), he or she will get another chance (last chance) in the ensuing year.
If the thesis is not yet successfully defend at the end of third year, the degree will be declared null and void.
If the trainee fails to submit thesis in November of year 3, he or she will be terminated from the course.
2.1 Board of Examination of Thesis assessment
Thesis assessment board consists of one chief examiner, two examiners and one external examiner.
Chief examiner : Chairman of the Postgraduate Board of Studies of M.Med. Sc
Biochemistry
Examiners : Two Professors or Associate professors from the Department of
Biochemistry from other Universities.
External examiner: One renowned person in the field of Biochemistry
2.2 Assessment of submitted Thesis
The thesis, which must be written in a format recommended by the University, should make some contribution towards scientific knowledge of the discipline, and must have at least one publication in scientific journals. Assessment should be based on the following:

2.3 Assessment of a verbal defense
The trainee is expected to defend most if not all aspects of his/her work, and also demonstrate adequate knowledge of the related theoretical background, and systematic, logical and critical thinking process. The trainee must bring the log book and other relevant materials such as raw and analyzed data and original journals/monographs or their photocopies cited in the thesis.
2.4 Criteria for pass/fail for Thesis
A score of 60% is considered as passed (thesis accepted with or without minor
amendment)
Trainees who scores less than 60% in the thesis defense must rewrite and submit their thesis within one month.
If he or she could not submit within Year Two, research and thesis writing may be extendible for one year.
It the trainee could not finish thesis defend and submission of the final version to the university) in a total of three year (by the end of December) he or she will be terminated from the course.
