ANATOMY CURRICULUM FOR 2nd M.B.,B.S.

INSTITUTIONAL AIM AND OBJECTIVES

Aim : To produce basic doctors who have the attitude, knowledge and skill to deliver emergency and basic medical care to the society and have the potential to pursue higher medical knowledge and expertise.
Objectives : The graduates of the institutes :

  1. should have acquired requisite knowledge, skills and attitudes for preventive, promotive, curative and rehabilitative health needs of the country.
  2. should be familiar with the national health programme and be able to apply knowledge based on administration and management science in the implementation of health programmes.
  3. should be capable of identifying and solving basic health problems.
  4. should be capable of updating oneself by continuing education and research.
  5. should have capability of adapting to the changing health needs of the community as well as the changing medical technology.
  6. should be capable of meeting the present as well as the future needs of the health care system and the society’s expectations.
  7. should be familiar with the medical ethics and observe and practice its codes.
  8. should have developed a holistic and humane attitude in dealing with patients and have greater commitment to patriotic ideals and a spirit of altruism.

LEVEL OBJECTIVES OF UNDERGRADUATE CURRICULUM

At the end of Phase I (second M.B., B.S), the learner should be able to demonstrate :

  1. an understanding of concepts and principles of basic natural sciences and their application to medical science.
  2. a basic knowledge of living organisms important to medical sciences.
  3. an understanding of how the basic requirements of human beings are provided by plants and animals.
  4. evidence of a predetermined level of knowledge of the structure and function of living organisms with emphasis on human body including growth, development, senescence and death and be able to identify deviation from normal.
  5. sufficient mastery of English and Myanmar language necessary to converse, read and comprehend medical literature, write up professional and technical matters and communicate with the community and his/her environment.
  6. learning skills such as problem solving ability and self-reliant learning.
  7. ability to identify, conduct and interpret basic laboratory tests in relation to medicine.
  8. ability to undertake simple surveys under supervision, to identify community/family health problems.
  9. evidence of developing the ability to relate classroom knowledge with common community/family problems.
  10. understanding of concepts and principles of holistic attitudes, human values and an ethical frame of mind.
  11. a basic understanding of man, society and environment, the variables which maintain them in harmony.
  12. awareness of medicine as a continuum of normal, deviation from normal and the correction of the deviations; the greatest emphasis at this phase will be on the normal phenomenon of life.

DEPARTMENTAL OBJECTIVES

General anatomy

At the end of study 2nd MBBS students must be able to :

  1. acquire the knowledge of anatomical terms and planes. (K)
  2. acquire the knowledge of various systems of the body. (K)
  3. describe the macroscopic and microscopic structure of the tissues and the organs. (K)
  4. acquire the knowledge of four basic tissues. (K)
  5. acquire the knowledge of reproductive cycle and hormonal control. (K)
  6. acquire the knowledge of the gametogenesis, fertilization, cleavage. (K)
  7. acquire the knowledge of formation of germ layers of embryonic disc. (K)
  8. acquire the knowledge of organogenesis and teratogenesis. (K)
  9. acquire the knowledge of fetal membranes, and fetal membrane in twins. (K)
  10. understand the fetal period. (K)
  11. acquire the knowledge of chromosomes and genes. (K) 12. acquire the knowledge of genetic diseases. (K)
  12. identify and demonstrate the structures of the body. (S)
  13. use the microscope effectively and to be able to interpret the normal microscopic structures. (S)
