Course Outline
English is not only the medium of instruction, but also a communication tool involving the four skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing. To improve the listening and speaking skills, listening activities are offered by means of authentic conversations so that you can be familiar with the authentic accent, stress and intonation, and also learn and imitate how to communicate in English effectively. Students will also have to take part in speaking activities like dialogues and role-plays, problem-solving activities, picture discussions, turn-taking, and pamphlet and poster presentations. Thus, they will be able to speak out appropriately and effectively whenever the situation calls for speaking in English. To improve reading skill, various texts including medically related passages are offered so that students will be able to develop basic understanding of health knowledge and utilize active strategies for comprehension. To improve writing, basic grammar such as uses of tenses, gerunds and infinitives, articles, comparisons, modal verbs, and sentence structures such as conditionals, reported speech, passive voice, direct and indirect questions, tag questions, inversion, and participle, relative and nominal clauses are to be learned. Students will also have to write informal emails and formal letters, essays, stories, summaries, reviews, reports, articles, graphs, and do word forming cloze activities, note-taking and making, and projects; pamphlet and poster. Thus, they will be able to write both academic and non-academic texts accurately and effectively. Therefore, they can study medicine in international situations and appropriately use English in your daily life.
